En 2002, Richard Gasquet remporte un match de Masters 1000 à 15 ans et 10 mois. Un record qui n’a toujours pas été battu.

Richard Gasquet has announced that he will retire from the sport after Roland-Garros 2025. He leaves behind a more than honourable career, even if some had seen it higher, and a magical one-handed backhand. But the Béziers native will also leave the circuit with a record that is not about to be beaten.

He had knocked out a former Roland-Garros semi-finalist

In April 2002, Gasquet made history. At 15 years and 10 months, he became the youngest player to win a Masters 1000 match. It was in the first round of Monte Carlo, against the Argentinian Franco Squillari (7-6, 3-6, 7-5), then ranked 54th in the world and a former semi-finalist at Roland Garros. He lost in the second round to Marat Safin, ranked 6th in the world (6-4, 6-1).

589th in the world at that time, Gasquet had been invited to play in the qualifiers. He had knocked out two top 100 players, Nikolay Davydenko and Adrian Voinea.
