May 1 this year, the company Virgin Galactic made its first test flight of its suborbital spacecraft SpaceShipTwo. And now the company managed to repeat the success, completing for the second test flight SpaceShipTwo landing at the spaceport Spaceport America.
The spacecraft SpaceShipTwo ran a couple of pilots. The same crew was in the mother aircraft VMS Eve. The separation of the spacecraft occurred at the height of 50 thousand feet (about 15.2 km). The second test flight was a high-speed plan that enabled Virgin Galactic to assess the stability of systems and operational characteristics of the ship before the start of test flights for the rocket engines. At the same time managed to achieve a higher speed in comparison with the first flight – Mach 0.85, according to itc.ua.
After the separation, SpaceShipTwo passed a few checkpoints and made a series of maneuvers. This allowed us to collect the necessary data. After the completion of all planned program ship made a successful landing at the Spaceport America. Now the team will examine the collected data and will prepare the spacecraft for a test flight with active engine.
