Volkswagen's electric range promises to be the widest on the market. The German brand is preparing both affordable models for 20,000 euros and a large electric car to replace the VW Passat.
The Volkswagen ID family of electric cars will be seriously expanded. Until 2020, the German brand will release ten new electric models. This was stated by Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schaeffer, according to Autocar.
According to him, Volkswagen's goal is to create the widest electric range on the market. This means that models of various classes and price categories are being prepared. Some cars will be built on the already existing MEB platform, others will use the more modern SSP architecture.
Volkswagen's CEO has revealed the details of some upcoming models. The flagship of the lineup will be the Volkswagen ID.Aero, the electric successor to the Passat sedan.
The starting models in the lineup will be an electric hatchback and a crossover priced at just over 20,000 euros. They will become analogues of the Volkswagen Polo and T-Cross. Previously, renderings of the crossover got onto the Internet – it will reach 4 m in length, and its power reserve will exceed 400 km.
In addition, Thomas Schaeffer announced a small C-class crossover based on the Volkswagen ID.3: he has there will be the same power plant, but the body will be made higher. The ID.3 itself will be updated next year and will receive a sporty 300-horsepower version.
Volkswagen will accelerate the development of electric cars. The management plans to completely abandon gasoline and diesel engines by 2033.
