A total of 57 of these attack drones have been shot down and 39 dummy drones have disappeared from radar. In the west, two fires have broken out at factories, which firefighters are trying to extinguish, according to emergency services in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, which is usually spared from attacks. Military official arrested
The deputy commander of a Ukrainian army unit has been arrested for embezzling night vision equipment worth more than 90,000 euros, in the midst of the war with Russia, the Ukrainian Bureau of Investigation (DBR) said on Monday.
The man, who was in charge of logistics for his unit, claimed in his report that 24 night vision devices had been lost in combat, when in reality he had ordered his subordinates to hide them “in a pile of garbage on a warehouse”, the DBR said in a statement. During searches of the unit, warehouses and the suspect's home, “material evidence of the illegal activity was seized”, the investigation bureau added. The serviceman was remanded in custody in the Dnipropetrovsk region (central-eastern), which is approaching the front from the east.
Investigators are looking into the possible involvement of other soldiers, including the unit's commander, in the case, according to the DBR. The suspect has been charged with embezzlement of military assets during martial law and faces up to 15 years in prison, the same source said. Since the start of the Russian invasion in February 2022, several corruption scandals have erupted in Ukraine, including within the Defense Ministry and the military, leading to the dismissals and arrests of senior officials.
Inexperienced North Korean soldiers
New details regarding the case of North Koreans on the Ukrainian front are revealed. After learning that they were being asked to commit suicide by their superiors, a Ukrainian commander reveals that these foreign soldiers are seriously lacking in awareness of the threats posed by drones and artillery. North Korean soldiers are attacking on foot “like in World War II”, he tells SkyNews. As for ammunition, it is transported using golf carts.
Having not fought in war since the 1950 Korean War, North Korean troops have very little experience in the field. Still according to SkyNews, due to the language barrier that significantly hinders coordination between Russians and Koreans, many mistakes have been made, such as the accidental targeting of Russian positions. Information discovered thanks to the interception of radio frequencies.
