Advice to drivers.
Puddles of technical fluid can sometimes be observed under the car after a long parking. Sometimes this indicates malfunctions of technical units, sometimes it is a consequence of natural processes. Specialists explained how to determine the color and smell of the liquid leaking from the car, and how it can be dangerous, informs Ukr.Media.
The most innocent smokes. Water condenses in the cooler of the climate system. It is thrown out through a special drain in the lower part of the engine compartment. And there is no need for repair.
The smell of gasoline is known to everyone, when it leaks, it is felt not only in the engine compartment, but also inside the cabin. If there is a breach in the tank, a puddle appears under the rear axle in front of the luggage compartment. If the fuel line is leaking, it can also drip from the engine compartment. In the latter case, smoke is formed only when the engine is running. In this case, it is better not to postpone the repair, since such a breakdown threatens with fire.
This technical liquid can be recognized by its alcoholic smell, medium viscosity and yellowish color. Usually, brake fluid drips around the wheels from the brake mechanisms. Big puddles of smoke do not form, but the presence of even a few drops indicates a loss of braking efficiency. It is forbidden to drive a car with faulty brakes. The mechanism should be repaired, the brake fluid changed and the system pumped again.
The oil does not have a strong odor and is recognized by its dark brown color. On the sheet of paper after it remains characteristic oily dilutions. At the same time, lubricant can drip not only from the engine, but also from the gearbox or from the rear axle. In this case, it is not so dark and has an amber tint.
Engine oil leakage occurs most often. In an old engine, gaskets and oil seals fail, oil leaks are often visible at the junctions of nodes and engine elements. If the lubricant leaks onto the asphalt, it means that the leak is quite large. It is recommended to regularly check the oil level with a dipstick and add it in a timely manner.
Leaking antifreeze is one of the most dangerous things for a car. If you do not determine the location of the leak in time, a hot fountain can suddenly close under the hood. The build-up of pressure causes the failed rubber tube to fly off its mounts, and the hot antifreeze rushes out and boils instantly. Therefore, the appearance of drops from the radiator or rubber tubes of the cooling system is a reason to be wary. Antifreeze can be identified by its alcohol smell and high viscosity. Multicolored oily spots remain on the paper after it.
