Do you know about the mirror site scam ? If not, you should pay attention to what follows as this very underhanded form of fraud risks costing you dearly. This type of fraud is currently usurping the identity of Parc Astérix. Let's take stock.

A formidable technique

Concretely, several sites are therefore pretending to be Parc Astérix. They try to replicate the original identically to push customers to make a transaction. Victims risk losing a lot of money in this operation without getting back authentic notes.

Parc Astérix told AFP that it had identified and closed several of these portals in collaboration with the authorities. Unfortunately, this fight is very complicated to carry out, and malicious individuals could try to open new ones. A call for vigilance is therefore launched.

Although the number of victims has not been revealed, it could be quite significant given the success of this space. Thus, Parc Astérix welcomed no less than 2.8 million visitors last year.

Other examples of fraud on mirror sites

This type of scam is not new. France Inforeported last year the misadventures of a Belgian consumer. She came across an advertisement for the JBC brand on Facebook. The link took her to a website almost identical to the original.

The mother realized too late that it was a mirror site and she had just lost 120 euros. She finally warned JBC, who had the fake site closed and alerted its customers. Except that it is difficult to prevent pirates from opening new clone sites. So, everyone has to be careful and check the authenticity of these portals.

In 2002, RMC also mentioned the case of this young man who had just bought two tickets for the Hellfest metal festival, for 600 euros. “I had a message with the bank logo telling me that I had an error in my transaction, which can happen on other, more well-known sites. I didn't worry about it, I tried several times and in fact, the payments were validated”, he relates.

He repeated the maneuver 4 times and lost 2400 euros in total without ever receiving the authentic tickets for the festival. His bank agreed to pay him 500 euros as a ” commercial gesture. “
