There are currently three types of fire extinguishers on the market.

Which fire extinguisher should be chosen for the car

Fire extinguisher without exaggeration, it can save your car in the event of an unexpected fire. At the same time, in order to quickly and effectively extinguish a fire, you must choose the right fire extinguisher in advance, informs Ukr.Media.

On the one hand, when you want to buy a fire extinguisher for a car, there is nothing complicated about it. On the other hand, a fire extinguisher in a car must meet certain requirements. We will talk about what fire extinguishers are in principle and what requirements they must meet today.

What fire extinguisher should be in the car

Conditionally, several main criteria can be identified for a fire extinguisher, based on which you should make your choice. It is about:

  • Capacity,
  • Type of filler in the fire extinguisher,
  • Quality of execution.

First, let's deal with capacity and quality. If we talk about the volume, then a fire extinguisher for a car should be at least 2 liters, and for a truck this volume should be at least 5 liters.

A 2-liter fire extinguisher is more than enough for a car, if you start extinguishing it in time fire

If we talk about quality, then classic fire extinguishers should be preferred, not the so-called aerosol ones. The latter have a number of advantages, in the form of small size and minimalist design, but at the same time they are not particularly effective in extinguishing a fire that could happen in a passenger car.

Which fire extinguisher to buy in auto

We decided a little on the quality and quantity of fire extinguishers. Now is the time to talk about their type. All fire extinguishers sold for cars can be conditionally divided into three types:

  1. Powder,
  2. Carbon dioxide,
  3. Air-emulsion.

Each of them has a certain number of features, including both advantages and disadvantages.

Powder extinguishers

Powder fire extinguishers are the most versatile, because they, in fact, cover everything around with foam, cutting off the access of oxygen to the fire. Depending on the type of powder, they are used to extinguish:

  1. solid materials,
  2. metal,
  3. liquid,
  4. gas,< /li>
  5. wirings.

The main disadvantage of such fire extinguishers is that the powder inside the cylinder can stick together, which is why there is a high percentage of failures. It is recommended to shake it every couple of months, and recharge it every two years.

Carbon dioxide fire extinguishers

Carbon dioxide fire extinguishers work on the principle of blocking the access of oxygen to the fire. At the same time, this type of fire extinguisher does not cope well with extinguishing gaseous materials, wood, plastic and fabric. But at the same time, they are actively used to extinguish electrical equipment, flammable liquids (fuel, lubricants).

Usually, carbon dioxide fire extinguishers need to be recharged once every 5 years, and the percentage of failures among them is lower than among powder extinguishers.

Air-emulsion fire extinguishers

Air-emulsion fire extinguishers have appeared on the market recently. They have a comprehensive effect on the fire, displacing oxygen from the combustion zone, cooling the surface and covering it with a highly adhesive film. These fire extinguishers cope with any fires without difficulty, and they do not need to be serviced for 10-20 years.

Everyone, in any case, will make the final choice regarding a fire extinguisher for himself. At the same time, if there is an opportunity, it is better to buy a higher-quality and more expensive option than to cry over a burned-out car later.
