Austrian police are investigating the murder of a citizen of Russia Mamehana Umarov. 43-year-old Chechen blogger, who asked for political asylum in Austria, was shot dead late Saturday in the outskirts of Vienna Gerasdorf. The bullet hit him in the head.
On suspicion of involvement in the crime arrested two Russians 48 and 37 years, immigrants from Chechnya. One of them was arrested in Linz during the night after the murder, the other on Sunday. The investigators find out whether there is in fact a political subtext.
Mamichan Umarov, also known as “Anzor from Vienna” and Martin Beck, lived in Austria since 2005 and actively criticized on the Internet Chechen authorities, including personally the head of the Republic Ramzan Kadyrov. By his own confessions Umarov, he has also fought against Russia.
In his recent speeches on the Internet, “Anzor from Vienna” feared for his life, claiming that the Chechen authorities have ordered his killing.
