Winnipeg man punches woman who allegedly tried to steal his dog

A 50-year-old Winnipegger punched a woman armed with bear spray who allegedly tried to steal his dog.

< p class="e-p">Winnipeg Police Service says the owner and his dog were walking in the Spence neighborhood around 6 a.m. Thursday.

Near the intersection on McMicken Street and Sargent Avenue, two women reportedly asked him for the time and permission to pet the dog. The man would have refused. It was then that one of the suspects allegedly grabbed the dog's leash while threatening the man with bear spray.

The victim gave punched the suspect and grabbed her dog. He ran away and was not injured. The suspects fled the area, the police statement said.

Both suspects are women in their thirties. One was of medium to heavy build, with dark hair tied back and a three-quarter length coat. The other was smoking a cigarette.
