PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Patrick Wisdom and Alfonso Rivas hit home runs followed by the Chicago Cubs, who beat the Philadelphia Phillies 6-3 on Tuesday, who are running out of time to react in search of a playoff berth.
The Phillies fell to another team that has long run out of postseason aspirations. Philadelphia just lost three of four home games to Colorado, which is 21-51 in someone else’s park.
Atlanta leads the NL East, four and a half games ahead of the Phillies. Philadelphia is two and a half games behind Cincinnati in the wild-card race.
San Diego and San Luis are ahead of the Phillies in the fight for the second wild-card.
After losing six of seven games, Philadelphia fell to the .500 mark (72-72).
Bryce Harper hit an RBI double in the fifth to continue his steamy production. He scored in that same inning, to make it 4-3.
He has the best OPS in the majors, 1,032.
Adrian Sampson (1-2) took the victory, allowing two runs in five innings. Rowan Wick struck out all three of his opponents in the ninth inning for his fourth save.
Kyle Gibson (10-7) took the loss.
For the Cubs, Venezuelans Rafael Ortega 4-1 with an RBI, Willson Contreras 3-1 with a run scored, Robinson Chirinos 1-0. The Dominican Sergio Alcántara 4-1 with a scored.
For the Phillies, Venezuelans Odubel Herrera 4-1 with a run scored and an RBI, Ronald Torreyes 2-0, Freddy Galvis 2-0. The Dominican Jean Segura 4-2 with a scored.
