It was a little less than two years ago… Tuesday, August 1, 2023, Geneviève de Fontenay died at her home in Saint-Cloud, in the Hauts-de-Seine, at the age of 90, following a heart attack. Since their meeting some twenty years earlier, the lady with the hat and Miss France 2001 had woven extremely strong bonds, despite the fact that they did not always agree on certain subjects.

Sunday, February 2, 2025, in the program Entre vous et moi, on YouTube, the young woman declared : “We can have this image of the lady with the hat who is almost grumpy, loudmouthed – this loudmouth side no one can deny – but she was a loudmouth with a lot of loyalty, honesty and integrity. She never cheated, she was a woman of honesty and integrity. We can disagree with she and I didn't agree with her on many subjects whether political or social, but we still exchanged on this subject”.

Élodie Gossuin: “A tolerant woman despite everything we could think about her”

In all transparency, the mother of two sets of twins assured that Geneviève de Fontenay was open-minded on different subjects. “We are far from imagining it but we could also talk about sexuality together. A very tolerant woman despite everything we could think about it”, she assured. According to her, the lady in the hat was “anything but bourgeois”.

Finally, &Éacute;lodie Gossuin specified about her late friend's lifestyle: “Despite her appearance, Geneviève had nothing, she was even a tenant of her apartment. She had nothing, really nothing, she was anything but materialistic. It is also very revealing of the driving force behind her life, she had never done all this to obtain something or to succeed in her life from a financial point of view, she did it out of love for people and the Miss France election”.
