Such gems rarely find their way into the hands of archaeologists.

Last month in the Czech Republic, an ordinary beetroot farmer discovered an unusual surprise. At the end of September, a sheet of gold fell into his hands. It turned out that this find is almost 2500 years old.

The object is well preserved. Therefore, this inspired the farmer to anonymously send his photographs to archaeologists from the nearby Silesian Museum in Opawa, writes Live Science.

The head of the museum's archeology department, Jerzy Juhelko, said the find was 51 centimeters long. She is made of gold. You can see inclusions of copper, gold and silver. It is believed that the object was previously the front of a leather belt.

Restorer Teresa Alex Kilnar has already begun work on analyzing and stabilizing the belt at the Bruntál Museum. In this she will be assisted by other specialists. Considering the style of decoration, she suggested that the belt dates from the Middle and Late Bronze Age. This is around the 14th century. BC

During this period, society became more complex. A hierarchy emerged between the poor farmers and the wealthy elite. Although the era has a large number of bronze artifacts, things for the elite were made from raw materials like gold. This is evidenced by the finds of such artifacts in the graves for the elites in Central Europe.

But little is known about the gold belt. However, Kilnar suggested that it could have belonged to someone of high standing in society, because at that time objects of such value were rarely made. The archaeologist of the Australian National University Katherine Freeman, who specializes in research on the metalworking of European bronze doi, has the same opinion.

Decorative objects of that time have not yet been fully studied. The archaeologist noted that decorations of this type and fragility are rare. As a rule, during excavations, “sheet” gold is torn like paper. Scientists emphasized that the find is unique not only for the region, but also for the Czech Republic as a whole.
