On January 1, in Yakutsk, an accident occurred at a local electrical substation, as a result of which more than a thousand families were left without electricity and heating in minus 42 degrees. It is reported by “Siberia. Realities”.

Without heating, many residents' batteries burst and sewer pipes froze. At the same time, local authorities refused to change the damaged property of the inhabitants of Yakutsk.

According to the stories of local residents, even generators cannot save them. The frosts are so severe that the whole microdistrict froze over in a matter of hours.

“In a matter of hours, the microdistrict literally froze, because not only was there no heating, but sewer pipes, radiators and septic tanks, boilers burst! This is almost a thousand private residential buildings, a thousand families. A very difficult situation. Women with monthly children are crying. I personally have two small children, 3 and 6 years old – we connected the generator, but it is still cold at home. Pipes burst in dozens of houses. And the chairman could not be contacted for a day. Now I can’t calmly read the mayor’s office report about “quick response” – we called for hours, asked for help, it was useless,” said Baybal, a resident of the Satal district.

At the same time, the press service of the District Administration of Yakutsk reported that as soon as they learned about the incident, they deployed an operational headquarters, started repair work and distributed generators to residents. And Yakutskenergo reported that local teams were “not ready to eliminate the emergency” on their own.

Citizens are now trying to find building hair dryers, generators and heat guns, but because of the holidays, shops are closed.
