You will soon have to be 18 to live stream on TikTok

As of November 23, you must be 18 to live stream on TikTok.

The TikTok app announced on Monday that it was raising the minimum age to stream live video, in addition to introducing an adult-only stream.

The threshold for live streaming on TikTok has so far been set at 16, and the account had to be followed by more than 1,000 people to engage in this activity. But as of November 23, only Internet users aged 18 or over will be able to use the feature. The app, however, did not specify whether it intended to keep the 1,000 subscriber rule.

The objective of this new measure is to prevent children from broadcasting live, which can lead to abuse. In addition, only people who create content will be able to receive money from Internet users during live broadcasts, an important source of income.

Also new is that insta-videographers will also be able to choose to target an 18+ audience for their content. Until now, both children and adults had access to all the videos on the platform through the For You page.

We have a vibrant and inspiring community on TikTok, and it's important that our platform remains a safe, supportive and joyful place for our community, TikTok argued in a blog post .

Among the other new features announced by the social network, a property of the Chinese company ByteDance, there is the possibility of hosting up to five people for a live chat.
