1.5 million elevator breakdowns every year: how the socialists want to put an end to this intolerable situation

This Thursday, January 23, the socialist deputies are defending a bill imposing obligations on elevator operators. They are asked to be more responsive.

It is very useful when we live on the seventh floor of a building, but much more than a gadget it is necessary for people with reduced mobility or the elderly: the elevator.

200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000

According to a study carried out by parliament, out of 670,000 cabins in France, 1.5 million breakdowns are recorded each year – out of 100 million daily journeys. In 40% of cases, the decommissioning of these devices is due to the obsolescence of the equipment, according to Ouest-France.

“Added to this are problems related to the practices of elevator operators: zero stock strategies and low national production of spare parts. Thus extending repair times”, explain the deputies. “In addition, maintenance contracts for homes are often less profitable than those of companies. This can lead to extreme situations where a technician is responsible for maintaining some 180 cabins.”

Faced with this problem, which for some is a real handicap on a daily basis, the MPs who initiated this study will defend a bill this Thursday as part of their “parliamentary niche” day. This text presented creates several obligations for elevator operators and building owners, including that in the event of a disaster, owners must inform technicians within two working days. From this information, elevator operators will be required to respond within two working days to carry out an intervention and eight working days to settle the disaster.
