On Wednesday afternoons, weekends or even during school holidays, it is not uncommon to take your children to indoor playgrounds, to do tree climbing, a laser or escape game, paintball, karting or any other activity of the kind. However, these outings have a certain cost, easily reaching twenty euros per child depending on age. The family outing can therefore quickly add up. And in 2025, this could even soar.

As the government seeks new revenue, the idea of ​​increasing VAT on leisure activities has been floated. Currently, the state receives 10% on each entry. In a few weeks, it may collect 20%. The idea was put forward by MP Philippe Juvin and will be examined in Parliament after many other elected officials have approved. the proposal during a first stage.

This would concern “exhibitions, sites and installations of a recreational nature”, namely all the aforementioned activities, but also museums, monuments and historic buildings (the Eiffel Tower for example), parks and botanical gardens or any type of amusement park (including Disneyland Paris and Parc Astérix). For a price range varying from 10  to 50 euros, this would lead to a price increase of 1 to 5 euros per ticket, with the increase in the tax inevitably being passed on to the price paid by the visitor.

The proposal still needs to be put to a vote by MPs and senators, as well as approved by the government. While this could generate 100 euros, 300 million euros in additional revenue for the State, families should think even more twice before organizing an activity of this kind.
