12 million French people will receive a letter from the tax authorities and it's bad news

Spread the love

The document will arrive in a few days.

The summer lightness is well and truly over. The start of the school year started with bad news for 32 million French people: a new letter from the tax authorities. The tax authorities have sent (and continue to send) an important document to most of the population, either by paper or directly on their personal space on the tax website. If the last letter from the General Directorate of Public Finances could hide a nice surprise with a tax refund, this time, it is not the case.

While many taxpayers have received it for several days, 12 million people have not yet received this communication from the tax administration. This one can't be long, since it is expected to arrive in just a few days. Since the sending is mainly done directly online, an e-mail will soon be sent and it should not be ignored, even if its subject is vague.

Property owners who pay part of the property tax monthly do not yet know the amount of the check to be written for 2024. In this document, they will therefore discover the exact bill they have left to pay, compared to the monthly payments already paid to the tax authorities, based on the 2023 amount.

For their part, non-monthly owners have already received their property tax, since August 28th directly by email, or by La Poste (mailings began on August 28th and last until September 20th),

Receiving mail is not an injunction to pay immediately. The tax authorities grant the French a period of time to be able to pay their property tax. Those who do not pay online will have until Tuesday, October 15, 2024, while those who pay online will have until Sunday, October 20, at 11:59 p.m.

This year, the property tax will increase by at least 3.9% for all French people. So, if you paid 500 euros in 2023, the bill will be 519.5 euros this year. It will climb to 1,039 euros if you paid 1000 euros last year and again 2078 euros if it was 2000 euros last year.
