Left winger Hugo Descat, who has not recovered enough from a herniated disc, has not been selected in the French team squad for the World Cup (January 14-February 2 in Croatia, Norway and Denmark) announced on Saturday January 11, unlike three MHB players.

Descat, also the main penalty taker for Les Bleus, did not take part in the two preparation matches, won on Wednesday and Friday in Strasbourg against the Czech Republic (38-27) and Portugal (44-38).

The coach Guillaume Gille does however have the possibility of calling him up during the competition during which he can make five changes to his group of 18.

16 players on each team sheet match

The other player left out on Saturday is right winger Benjamin Richert, who made his first selection against the Czechs but was replaced by the versatile Julien Bos, right back with Nantes. Fullbacks Dika Mem and Elohim Prandi, who played again this week after about two months of absence, are also present.

Gille will have to draw 16 players per match from this group of 18. Les Bleus, 2024 European champions before being eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Olympic tournament, enter the competition on Tuesday against Qatar in Porec (Croatia).
