Its opponents have not yet been determined, but the French team already knows that it will not face the world's big nations. This Friday, December 13, the European draw for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers (June 11 – July 19) took place, which will take place in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Why Les Bleus are not determined ? Because they are still in the Nations League. Depending on the result of their quarter-final against Croatia next June, they will either be in Group D (Ukraine, Iceland, Azerbaijan) or in Group L (Czech Republic, Montenegro, Faroe Islands and Gibraltar).

The top team in each group qualifies for the World Cup.

48-team World Cup

Five personalities took part in this draw: Frenchman Robert Pirès, German Ariane Hingst, Spanish Fernando Llorente, Englishwoman Rachel Yankey and Italian Gianluca Zambrotta.

The World Cup 2026 will definitely be a unique event in the history of football, since it will be the first of its kind. Indeed, the global competition will bring together 48 teams, compared to 32 since 1998. 16 European teams will qualify.
