Some series have left their mark on the history of pop culture. However, the production of a gem is based on a fragile balance that is often unknown to the general public. From casting to script choices, including enmities or moments of grace, the destiny of a creation sometimes reveals real surprises. Here are 5 secrets from filming Stranger Things by Matt and Ross Duffer available on Netflix.
Once the original script was written, Matt and Ross Duffer set out to find a broadcaster. To say the least, the search was not without its challenges. In an interview with the magazine Rolling Stones, Matt estimates that they had between 15 and 20 rejections from networks.
Some decision-makers were also bothered by the fact that the series had children as main characters, but that Stranger Things was intended for an adult audience. One of them explained to them:
You either have to make it a children's series or make it a series about the character Hopper who investigates paranormal activity in the city.

Matt Duffer then replied: “In this case, we lose everything interesting about the series”. Netflix will eventually make up its mind and it did them a lot of good: Stranger Things is one of the biggest hits on the streaming platform.
It is one of the must-see locations in the series from season 3 onwards. The Starcourt Mall was built in a declining commercial area in the state of Georgia. Production designer Chris Trujillo told the Los Angeles Times that about 40 storefronts were recreated for the occasion.
He comments: “Imagine a shopping mall with no stores and no decorations. We had to painstakingly recreate the facades, all the signs, all the displays of the stores. In many cases, we had to reconfigure the architecture of the storefront because it was dilapidated or had been remodeled piecemeal over the years”.
Stranger Things executive producer Dan Cohen explained that the original plan for the drama was to set each season in a new decade. Quoted by Yahoo Entertainment, he thus underlines:
At one point the idea was to do the 80s, 90s, 2000s, and then season 5 would be set in 2020 and catch up with the current era. But I think ultimately there was this world that we really loved and in creating it we didn't want to take away from these kids.
That's it for this week. Are you a die-hard fan of this show?? Feel free to share your memories in the comments. If you liked the article, you can always find the previous part of this section here.
