Some series have left their mark on the history of pop culture. However, the production of a gem is based on a fragile balance that is often unknown to the general public. From casting to script choices, including enmities or moments of grace, the destiny of a creation sometimes reveals real surprises. Here are 3 secrets from filming The Office (US) by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.
The casting could have been very different
According to our colleagues at Mentalfloss, the production had auditioned Adam Scott to play Jim Halpert. For his part, Seth Rogen was positioned to play Dwight Schrute. Bob Odenkirk, today known for his role as Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad and the spin-off Better Call Saul, was for his part expected to play Michael Scott before being replaced by Steve Carell. Finally, Eric Stonestreet almost played the legendary Kevin.

The actor's audition went pretty badly according to the Huff Post. He was originally supposed to play Dwight, but he eventually convinced the casting directors to read a few lines from Jim. While he was in the waiting room, a man asked him if he was nervous. John Krasinski's response:
You know, not really. You either have that or you don't. But what really makes me nervous is this show. It's just that I love the British show so much and the Americans tend to screw up those adaptations. I don't know how I'm going to handle it if they ruin this show.
The man then replied “My name is Greg Daniels, I'm the executive producer (the big boss Ed.)” . We know the rest, the actor will eventually be hired, he will be excellent and it will really take off his career.
What the actors were doing on their computers
According to the fan site Dunderpedia, the computers used in the series were actually connected to the Internet. The actors that we see “working” in the background must have been busy online. It should also be noted that the first season was filmed in a real office building in California.
