In January 2022, it was just a promise from Emmanuel Macron, it has now come true. France therefore has a 17Cyber, a free platform that can be reached 7 days a week and 24 hours a day to respond to emergencies regarding cyberattacks and cybercrime. Here is what you need to know about this system.

Who is 17Cyber for ?

This initiative aims to help victims of malicious online acts (viruses, phishing, bank scams, ransomware, etc.). It can therefore just as well be individuals, companies, communities, or associations.

How it works ?

Once on the dedicated platform, the idea is to identify the problem encountered. Visitors will then receive personalized advice and will potentially be put in touch with law enforcement or a private service provider, depending on the case, detail our colleagues at BFM Tech.

If a report is necessary, the victim will be directed to other platforms. This is the case with THESEE for filing complaints. The ambition is definitely there on the side of the Ministry of Daily Security, which is deploying a “17Cyber module” that can be integrated directly into websites. The idea is “to complete the 17Cyber course and benefit from personalized assistance”. To find out more about this, click here.

Why launch 17Cyber ?

This initiative is clearly not a coincidence. According to a recent survey, 9 out of 10 French people have already been confronted with a situation of computer malware. Cybermalveillance.gouv also reminds us” that between 2016 and 2023, “digital” attacks on property (fraud, online scams, etc.) increased by an average of 8% per year, while “digital” attacks on people (harassment, insults, threats, discrimination) increased by an average of 9% each year”.

At the same time, local authorities are facing a resurgence of ransomware attacks that wreak havoc and sometimes hamper the operation of these public services that are essential to citizens. We will therefore have to see how it is used, but 17Cyber could represent a real breath of fresh air in terms of cybersecurity in France.

What to remember:

  • Almost three years after its presentation, 17Cyber is launched in France
  • It is a platform that can be reached 7 days a week and 24 hours a day
  • It allows us to respond to emergencies in terms of cyberattacks and cybercrime
  • It is a welcome initiative as these threats are increasingly present
