The long-awaited graphics revolution is finally here. Nvidia is making a big splash at CES 2025 with the announcement of its new RTX 5000 range, based on the Blackwell architecture. The American manufacturer doesn't do things by halves: performance doubles across the entire range compared to the previous generation. Even more impressive, the RTX 5070, offered at 649 euros in Europe, rivals the old RTX 4090 which cost nearly 2000 euros when it was released.
A super-powerful, but surprisingly compact RTX 5090
The star of this announcement remains the RTX 5090. With its 32 GB of ultra-fast GDDR7 memory and its 21,760 CUDA cores, it smashes all records. Nvidia demonstrated this live with Cyberpunk 2077: the card reaches 238 FPS in ray tracing with DLSS 4, compared to 106 FPS for the RTX 4090. This power comes at an energy cost: the card consumes up to 575W and requires a 1000W power supply.
But the real surprise comes from the design. Unlike the massive RTX 4090, the new reference adopts a two-slot format compatible with mid-sized cases. Nvidia has completely redesigned the cooling system with a 3D vapor chamber and two cross-flow fans. A nice surprise for gamers who were already imagining a 3-slot card. Integrating the card into their configuration will therefore be easier.

DLSS 4: AI reinvents graphics rendering
The Blackwell architecture introduces a major innovation with DLSS 4. This new version can generate up to three additional frames for each rendered frame, multiplying the number of frames per second by eight in the best cases.

This technology also benefits older RTX cards, but it is on the 5000 series that it gives its full measure thanks to the new 5th generation Tensor cores.
< p>AI doesn't stop there: RTX Neural Shaders revolutionize material and face rendering. Developers can now integrate small neural networks directly into their shaders to achieve photorealistic rendering in real time. A demonstration called Zorah highlighted these new capabilities.
A full range starting in February

The RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 will open the show on January 30, at 2,349 euros and 1,179 euros respectively. The RTX 5070 Ti (884 euros) and RTX 5070 (649 euros) will follow in February. The Founders Edition versions will be available directly from Nvidia, while partners such as ASUS, MSI or Gigabyte will offer their own designs.
Laptop manufacturers are not left out. The first laptops equipped with the RTX 5090, 5080 and 5070 Ti will hit the market in March. The mobile version of the RTX 5070 will follow in April. Nvidia promises increased energy efficiency with 40% longer battery life thanks to Max-Q technology.
For the first time, a mid-range graphics card delivers the performance of a previous high-end model at a quarter of the price. DLSS 4 and neural technologies usher in a new era of real-time photorealism. More than 75 games will support these features at launch.
- The RTX 5070 at €649 matches the performance of the RTX 4090
- DLSS 4 multiplies FPS by 8 thanks to AI
- The first cards will be available from January 30, 2025
