In just four years of existence, Beem Energy has established itself as a benchmark in the solar sector in France. The kits offered by the young company based in Nantes are selling like hotcakes, a feat in a highly competitive sector.

Because the French are turning more and more towards this alternative. While only 3,000 self-consumption sites dotted France in 2015, this figure exploded to 440,000. A trend which is mainly explained by the constant rise in the price of electricity, pushing consumers to turn to more economical solutions. Beem Energy has done well, here are 5 things to know about this young company that has become big.

Beem was co-founded by men with very different backgrounds

The start-up is the result of a collaboration between three unique profiles. Ralph Feghali, the current CEO, is an agricultural engineer from Paris. Pierre-Emmanuel Roger spent ten years at Renault where he worked on electric cars. He is today the technical director of Beem Energy.

Coming from the Nantes School of Design and working for a certain Google, Arthur Kenzo is the company's head designer. Beem also benefited from support from Imagination Machine, a start-up studio set up in Nantes by Rob Spiro, “ serial entrepreneur ” of Silicon Valley.

Aspects of its model are comparable to that of Apple

Beem's strength lies not only in the performance of its products, but also in their ease of use and distinctive design. The company offers ready-to-plug solar kits, with panels with a recognizable aesthetic.

If its solar cells and batteries are designed in China, Beem Energy pays attention particular to the assembly of supports, quality control and packaging, an aspect to which the start-up is particularly attached. Each of these steps is carried out in France, she assures.

Beem has already raised nearly 30 million euros

The young shoot took off partly thanks to the funds it raised successively. In 2019, it completed a first seed round of 2 million euros. Two years later, it followed up with a €7 million Series A round. It topped off these successes last year by adding an additional €20 million to its capital.

Its investors include Cathay Investment, 360 Capital, Alter Equity 3P, BNP Paribas Développement and Bpifrance.

The start-up is aiming for 500,000 installations in Europe by 2030

As these collections were raised, Beem Energy was able to strengthen its teams. It now has around fifty employees and has established itself in ten European countries. Thanks to a partnership with Leroy Merlin which allowed it to drastically expand its presence, its products are now offered in 500 brands across the Old Continent.

Beem is targeting 500,000 installations in Europe by 2030, a goal it hopes to achieve thanks to its recent deployment in Italy, where solar is particularly popular.

Beem wants to create a complete energy ecosystem for homes

The young company aims to expand its activities beyond simple solar kits, as evidenced by the recent launch of three new solutions. Energy Switch is an intelligent sensor-router which is integrated into the electrical panel, it measures the energy consumption of the home and intelligently controls excess production.

The Beem Charger, a bi-directional charging station, intelligently harnesses excess solar energy to power electric vehicles while allowing, if necessary, the energy stored in the vehicle's battery to be reinjected. vehicle to the home network. Finally, the Beem Go software monitors energy consumption in real time, optimizes the use of the energy produced, and aims to reduce consumers' electricity bills by up to 23%.
