50 years of MHSC: longevity, track record, fiery temperament… how Geoffrey Jourdren established himself as an iconic goalkeeper

This Sunday: With 74 “clean sheets”, Geoffrey Jourdren is the goalkeeper who has played the most matches without conceding a goal in the MHSC jersey. 

In the great tradition of goalkeepers trained at the MHSC (Vercoutre, Riou, Pionnier, Viviani, etc.), Geoffrey Jourdren (38 years old) is undoubtedly the most iconic of them. With his longevity (289 matches), his record (2012 French champion) and his fiery temperament (whoever rubs against him gets stung), Jourdren has established himself as the archetype of the last bulwark of the pailladin: authentically gifted and loudmouth.

Revealed by the documentary “À la Clairefontaine” (1986 class of the INF Clairefontaine), in which he already plays a youngster of disarming frankness, Geoffrey Jourdren has continued to combine the spectacular with efficiency. Bingo! With 74 “clean sheets” (i.e. 1 match in 4), he is the goalkeeper who has played the most matches without conceding a goal in the MHSC jersey.

The succession is ready

He will spend most of his career there as a starter, even if Johann Carrasso stole the show in 2008-2009. A postponement for Jourdren, who then had the best years of his career, which would lead him to the apotheosis of the 2012 title. Loulou said that he had “a Ruffier and a Lloris in each leg”, proof that the international level was not far away.

Since 2022, Geoffrey Jourdren has been coaching young U14 to U17 national goalkeepers at the MHSC training center. His son Ilan is following in his footsteps: an international under-17, he has everything of a successor.
