An off-leash dog attacked a 9-year-old child on a playground who will have long-term consequences, according to Toronto police. They are looking for the owner of the dog who fled after the attack, they say.
In a press release released Saturday, the Toronto Police Service said the attack took place Saturday morning at Little Norway Park, near Billy Bishop Airport.
A woman was inside the playground with a dog that was not on a leash. A father accompanied by his child approached the playground. The dog charged the child through an open gate. The dog bit and dragged the child to the ground. The woman and the child's father tried to force the dog to let go of the child. When the dog released the child, the woman fled the area in a northerly direction with the dog.
The child was transported to hospital with serious injuries, which will disrupt his life, but which are not life-threatening, we read in the press release .
The woman is described as aged between 30 and 40 years old, between 1.75 m (5 ft 9 in) and 1.80 m (5 ft 11 in) tall, of heavy build, brown hair in a ponytail. She was last seen wearing glasses, a blue winter jacket and black pants.
