The iPod is reborn with this accessory for Apple Watch

Nobody asked for it, but the company TinyPod has just released a device capable of transforming an Apple Watch into an iPod. All for under $100. A coup that should appeal to those nostalgic for the 2000s and fans of “dumbphones”. At least that’s what the creator of this product, Newar, who is known in the world of jailbreaks for various feats of arms, hopes.

Presented for the first time last March, the TinyPod has now established itself as a solution of choice for keeping your iPhone away from you.

Indeed, the Tinypod promises to offer an elegant and remarkable solution for “dumbphones”. whose design is often not the least strong. This trend, which has been growing in recent years, involves using “dumb” phones. instead of our smartphones which are, in essence, “intelligent”.

Newar promises that the TinyPod can answer calls, send messages, check the weather, listen to music or even handle emails and WhatsApp messages, but its use stops at these essential communication points. It is impossible to launch Instagram, TikTok or Facebook on an Apple Watch. Screen time is therefore impacted. However, navigation is not reminiscent of that of the iPod. The TinyPod user walks around in WatchOS, as you can already do with your smartwatch on your wrist.

The Apple Watch, the big loser ?

But ultimately, the big loser in this story is surely the Apple Watch. By being reduced to the role of a screen for an iPod 2.0, it loses many functionalities yet in signature. Indeed, the Apple Watch is very popular today because it offers ultra-comprehensive health monitoring. Without this data, it is very difficult to justify its price, at more than 500 euros.

The tinyPod is undoubtedly an interesting, fun accessory, which will bring back good memories to its owners. But will it still be a solution of choice for the Apple Watch, nothing is less certain.

Price and availability

The TinyPod has been available since this morning on the brand's official website. You can purchase the device in two different formats. The first revives the legendary iPod wheel. It controls the digital crown of the watch and allows you to navigate within WatchOS.

The other model, much more affordable, called “Lite”, frees the digital crown of the watch so that it can be used manually. The classic version costs $79.99 while the “lite” version costs is only sold for $29.99. Depending on the size of your Apple Watch, the TinyPod may cost slightly more, with prices increasing by 10 dollars on the “larger” versions.
