If you already use Gemini on your Android smartphone, the following will interest you. Google's AI thus acquires a very valuable functionality. It is now possible to use the language model even if your phone is locked via the command “Hey, Google”.

Great progress for Gemini

On its page, the Mountain View firm remains quite vague on this subject, mentioning the fact that its AI can answer basic questions. Zdnet however tried this option at length and our colleague discovered that Gemini can work very satisfactorily in this way.

< p>This is the case for the weather, the next match of your favorite team, all details which are of course already available via a classic Internet search. Google's technology can also generate lists on various topics as it normally does.

For obvious security and confidentiality reasons, it is not possible to read messages or modify a schedule if the smartphone is locked. This is quite beneficial, especially if the latter were to pass into the wrong hands.

Finally note that if this option is activated by default, it is possible to prevent Gemini to work if your screen is locked. To do this, go to the settings then in the “Gemini section on the’lock screen” and deactivate this feature.

Google's ambition on AI

If we can welcome this development, it is only an additional step by the Tech giant in this area. Google does not hide its ambitions, as Sameer Samat, president of Android ecosystems, recently explained, who believed that the integration of Gemini will profoundly change the user experience.

Interviewed by Business Insider, the latter indicated as follows:

You can't do this stuff if you're just an app on a device. We can do this on Android, so Gemini can enter the situation with context, above or alongside what's happening.

Clearly, Google does not think of this technology as a simple application, but as a real assistant integrated into the overall system user interface of the device.
