While we are still waiting for the iPhone 16, which will be released in September, rumors are also circulating about the iPhone 17 series, which will arrive in 2025. Many sources suggest that there will not have an iPhone 17 Plus, but instead, Apple should offer a “Slim” iPhone 17. And today, this is becoming clearer. Indeed, in an article published this week, the MacRumors site relays a publication from Ice Universe on the Chinese social network Weibo, which shares alleged information on the iPhone 17 series, including the future iPhone 17 Slim.
The publication states that the iPhone 17 Slim would have a completely new design, compared to recent models. And in terms of positioning, Apple would make the iPhone 17 Slim its most high-end smartphone, with a price even higher than that of the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Indeed, according to this new source, the base price of the iPhone 17 Pro Max would be $1,199, while that of the Slim model would be $1,299.

The customer would therefore pay more for a smartphone with a new design, but whose technical sheet would be less advanced than that of the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Indeed, according to this new rumor, the iPhone 17 Pro Max would have 12 GB of RAM, an A19 Pro chip and three 48 megapixel sensors on the back. As for the iPhone 17 Slim, this would make do with 8 GB RAM, an A19 chip and two photo sensors on the back. But of course, for the moment, these are still rumors and therefore caution remains in order. Plus, at this point, it's still possible that Apple's plans could change.
In any case, it would be logical for Apple to put an end to the iPhone “Plus”, if sales of this format do not correspond to the firm's expectations. In addition, the smartphone market is currently trending towards premiumization: people are buying more and more premium models. And it is possible that replacing the iPhone “Plus” with a “Slim” model is one way for Apple to adapt to these changes in consumer behavior.
