The French government said that numerous communications cables have been targeted by vandalism, affecting fiber optics as well as landline and mobile phone networks, as cities across the country host the Paris Olympics.

The extent of the acts is still unclear, as is its impact on Olympic activities. The vandalism comes after numerous railway lines were sabotaged in France last Friday, hours before the opening ceremony of the Games.
