In its 500 Fortunes de France ranking, the magazine Challenges took an interest in the richest start-up leaders in France. Unsurprisingly, it is the co-founders of Mistral AI who dominate the ranking, in which digital technology is largely in the spotlight.

Start-up d’ AI and fintech in the spotlight

With an estimated fortune of 3 billion euros, Arthur Mensch, Thimotée Lacroix and Guillaume Lample are the wealthiest start-up managers in France. They hold the majority of shares in Mistral AI, a French competitor to ChatGPT founded only a year ago. The young company is now valued at 6 billion euros and is stimulating the French start-up ecosystem.

In addition to AI, fintech is also in the spotlight. Axel Bouaziz, founder of Deel, takes second place on the podium with a fortune of 2.4 billion euros. Specializing in international payroll management and human resources management, the company has experienced rapid growth due to the rise of hybrid and remote work during the pandemic.

Back Market’s leaders, Thibaud Hug de Larauze and Quentin Le Brouster, are third. Aiming for profitability for their company by the end of the year, this is the first time they have appeared in this ranking. They have a combined total of 750 million euros. Just behind, Daniel Yanisse and Jonathan Périchon, at the head of CheckR, have 675 million euros. Their solution makes it possible, among other things, to facilitate the hiring process for employers.

They are followed by Julien Chaumond and Clément Delangue, co-founders of the AI start-up Hugging Face. The firm is now valued at €2 billion, allowing them to claim a capital of €625 million. The fintech stands out once again thanks to Pennylane, an all-in-one financial and accounting management platform, designed for business leaders, the self-employed, financial directors and their accountants. Arthur Waller, Tancrède Besnard and Felix Blossier enter the ranking with a combined total of €600 million.

Only one woman in the ranking

Then it is the leaders of another fintech, Qonta, who complete the ranking. Alexandre Prot and Steve Anavi have a fortune estimated at 500 million euros. The same goes for David Gurlé, the founder of Symphony, which provides coworking spaces and flexible office services.

Éléonore Crespo is the only female entrepreneur in this top 10. She heads Pigment alongside Romain Niccoli. With 500 million euros, this is the first time they have made the list. Their company, which develops an innovative financial and strategic planning platform for businesses, obtained unicorn status in April after raising 145 million euros.

In 10th place, we find the co-founders of Ogury, Jean Canzoneri and Thomas Pasquet. They have accumulated 450 million euros thanks to their start-up specializing in mobile advertising and privacy protection.
