Launched in 2017, the success of the Nintendo Switch is not letting up: as of March 31, 2024, no less than 14.32 million hybrid consoles had been sold. And the level of sales remains strong as the console begins to reach the end of its cycle. It must be said that Nintendo has played rather well by focusing more on the experience and the quality of the games than on the power, the performances or the realism of the graphics.

With games like Zelda Breath of The Wild, Mario Odyssey< /em>, Mario Kart 8and many others players continue to enjoy the current generation; which does not really encourage the company to hurry up to launch a Nintendo Switch 2. And yet, we know that the next generation is coming. The information comes from a series of leaks that have multiplied in recent months – without any real official announcement from the video game giant.

No Nintendo Switch 2 before at least April 2025

It remains to be seen exactly on what horizon. Several concurrent sources have so far mentioned a release within a few months. Behind the scenes, Nintendo would have liked to launch the console before the end of 2024 according to certain people close to the giant. But new clues have just fallen via a site linked to Eurogamer (Gamesindustry.biz) – and we warn you right away: you will have to be a little more patient.

So, according to site director Chris Doug “no developer […] expects a launch during the fiscal year – Besides, they were told not to expect it in this exercise”. At Nintendo, the fiscal year ends on March 31. Which leaves April 2025 as the earliest horizon for a hypothetical announcement.

We also note that in 2017, Nintendo had confirmed the arrival of the Nintendo Switch in the current of the month of March. According to Eurogamer, “hundreds of developers”are already busy developing games for this new generation. A priori we can expect a more powerful hardware platform, and enduring in terms of autonomy.

The arrival of a switch with an OLED screen suggests that the next Nintendo Switch 2 will also have this type of screen. Unless the platform relies on a mini-LED display (an LCD display with a sort of local dimming based on a very dense matrix of LEDs) that is potentially cheaper and easier to source.

This would in any case benefit from a wider diagonal than the LCD screen of the first Nintendo Switch. Sources close to the matter also speak of new Joy Con that will attach to the console via magnets rather than the comparatively less durable rail system installed on the first generation.

  • While the official announcement of a Nintendo Switch 2 is still pending, sources suggest that we should be patient for a little longer.
  • Developers have reportedly been told that the console will not arrive by the end of this fiscal year.
  • That leaves April 2025 as the earliest possible date for a Nintendo Switch 2 to launch.
