Do you know the magic words to stop being harassed by cold calling ?

Ah, cold calling… What a scourge! As indicated by a UFC-Que Choisir survey published in December 2023, 72% of French people say they receive at least one call per week for cold calling. Some are even solicited on a daily basis. It is a real source of annoyance and stress for consumers.

Today, solutions exist to combat cold calling. Mobile operators and smartphone manufacturers are trying to filter calls that resemble spam and while this is relatively effective, it is not yet miraculous. Although the Naegelen law has been adopted, canvassers must now follow certain strict rules (including strict time slots) and numbers starting with 06 and 07 are strictly forbidden from canvassing you, some telemarketers manage to slip through the net and continue to greatly irritate many French people. You can take the time to block the insistent numbers, but there are many of them and they change constantly.

To put an end to abusive canvassing, hanging up on the call center agents is far from being the solution. If you want to get rid of them effectively, it is better to show a hint of cunning to catch them at their own game. Thus, a magic word can be enough to free you from this harassment.

Telephone canvassing: here's how to finally have peace

Telephone canvassing is becoming more and more (and better and better) regulated. It is precisely by reminding this to the telephone advisors who are constantly contacting you that you can rest easy. Be aware that you can only receive calls from them on weekdays, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. If you are ever canvassed outside of these strict time slots, you are completely within your rights to point out to your contact that they are committing an offence. According to article L242-16 of the Consumer Code, the company may be subject to an administrative fine of 375,000 euros in the event of telephone canvassing outside legal hours.

You can also mention a report to the DGCCRF via their Signal Conso platform in the event of abusive and repetitive canvassing. Mentioning this should calm the ardor of your interlocutor.

Finally, threaten to file a complaint with the CNILIf the call center agents are particularly persistent, it is often daunting. You can request that your contact details be deleted from the database. As a reminder, a consumer cannot be called back within two months after refusing to be contacted by a telephone advisor.

With these techniques, you should no longer be untimely disturbed by telephone canvassing.
