In Star Wars Episodes IV, V, and VI, Harrison Ford steals the show as Han Solo. This big-hearted smuggler quickly becomes an essential element of the rebellion and a key protagonist of the saga alongside Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa.
A huge green-skinned monster

Delving into George Lucas' early plans, however, reveals a very different project for the latter. The drafts dating from 1977 in fact foresee a non-human Han Solo described as a “huge green-skinned monster, with no nose and huge gills”, specifies Screenrant.
We are therefore talking about a character much closer to Chewbacca than to the hero played by Harrison Ford. He would have been close to Luke Skywalker. Ironically, the latter would have been only an experienced general and not a fiery game eager to learn.

How Star Wars would have been upset ?
If the production had chosen this option, Star Wars as we know it would have been very different. In addition to the historical saga that would have had to do without Harrison Ford's charisma, the extended universe would have taken other plot lines.
This is the case for the latest episodes offered by Disney where the former smuggler makes a remarkable return in episode VII and where his son Ben Solo aka Kylo Ren, plays the leading roles. We would also have been deprived of novels that are very popular with fans. This is particularly the case for Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zan, which we highly recommend. What to remember:
- Han Solo, played by Harrison Ford, steals the show in the original Star Wars saga
- However, this character was supposed to take a non-human form and was even a rival of Chewbacca
- His importance in the plot was also supposed to be much less pronounced
