This sentence from Eric Piolle about the agent killed in Grenoble is misunderstood and controversial.

The remarks of the mayor of Grenoble, Eric Piolle, about the city's municipal agent killed on Sunday have drawn strong criticism. In reality, his words have not been understood.

Eric Piolle is facing a controversy that continues to grow on social networks. The mayor of Grenoble is facing strong criticism after speaking out about the city's municipal agent, who died from his injuries after receiving two bullets in the chest on Sunday morning. He was trying to hold back a reckless driver, responsible for a road accident in Grenoble, who then shot him.

In response to this settling of scores, Eric Piolle declared: “No one is safe from a stray bullet in the settling of scores. That's our fear. Here it's not the subject because it's a traffic accident. He didn't shoot a dealer but someone who came to help him”, as he insisted on recalling on X, this Sunday. But since then, social networks have gone wild and the beginning of his reaction “no one is safe from a stray bullet in the settling of scores” was taken out of context, particularly in an 11-second video, which represents only part of his statement to BFMTV. In reality, the councilor was responding to another question.

This is why the mayor of Grenoble tried to put out the fire on RMC this Monday, September 9: “It's the fachosphere that is distorting my words since there was a question about settling scores and I said: “Our fear as mayors is a stray bullet for an innocent person. And, here, we are not in the context of settling scores. The fachosphere is on fire, ok, it's their life. But we are not in that framework,” he explains.

Problem, the sentence of the mayor of Grenoble gave rise to several subjects, chronicles, and live reactions on the different sets of the news channels, Sunday evening and this Monday morning. This Monday, on BFMTV, the LR mayor of Nice Christian Estrosi was the guest of Apolline de Malherbe in the show “Face & agrave; face”. “Everyone knows that Eric Piolle is a mayor who is not necessarily security-minded, authoritarian, he only talks about prevention (…) I am a little shocked when, when it comes to an agent of your community, of which you must be your first defender, I am first and foremost on their side and I demand the most total impunity,” declared in particular Estrosi.

“The denial of reality by this left is criminal!”, wrote RN MEP Aleksandar Nikolic on X. “Eric Piolle's comments about the fact that “no one would be safe from a stray bullet” are unacceptable. It was a cleaning employee who was coldly shot down while trying to stop a hit-and-run driver from fleeing,” commented Christian Estrosi on X. For his part, the senator for Saône-et-Loire, Jérôme Durain (Socialist, Ecologist and Republican Group), tried to come to the aid of the mayor, still on the same social network: “The trial of Eric Piolle is pathetic. Shame on the elected officials who spread such nonsense. If they wanted to be useful to the security of our country, they would go after the criminals and not the mayors who are on the front lines against crime.”
