Microsoft is stocking up on new AI features for Copilot, Windows and... Paint

Microsoft has just announced a series of new features for Windows users and its Copilot assistant. By relying on artificial intelligence, the Redmond firm hopes to increase the productivity of its users. And among the new features announced, there is a new feature called Click to Do, which is currently being tested in preview on Windows 11. This allows access to new options when taking a screenshot. Indeed, after pressing the Print Screen button, the user will be able to perform a visual search on an object (as one would do on Android using Circle to search). But that's not all.

As Microsoft explains: “If you’re working with text, Click to Do can rewrite, summarize, or explain text, send an email to a recognized address, search the web, or open a site with a recognized URL. This feature adapts to what you’re doing on your screen, offering relevant suggestions.”

Microsoft is also announcing improved search functionality for Copilot+ computers, as well as a security improvements for Recall, one of its most controversial new features.

Microsoft continues to develop Recall

As a reminder, this is a new feature that relies on AI and allows the user to track their activity on their PC. Obviously, this has been heavily criticized for privacy reasons. For its part, Microsoft says it has taken these criticisms into account. For example, it explains that it will be necessary to identify yourself via Windows Hello to access Recall. And the system will apply filters to hide sensitive information. In any case, the deployment of Recall is continuing, since this feature will be available in test version on Copilot+ PCs starting this October.

New AI features are coming to Paint

While Microsoft tends to get rid of some old applications, Paint still has a bright future ahead of it. Indeed, Microsoft continues to improve this Windows app by relying on generative AI. Previously, it had added a feature that allows you to generate images from a text description, on Paint. And the firm has just announced two other AI features: “Generative Fill” and “Generative Erase”. Comparable to the features that Google offers on Google Photos, these features allow you to display elements of a photo, or add them.

Copilot moves up a gear, but not in the EU

Microsoft also continues to beef up its Copilot assistant, so that it remains competitive with ChatGPT and Google's Gemini chatbot. For example, Microsoft's AI has a feature called Copilot Voice, which allows you to use Copilot more naturally with your voice.

Copilot Daily, on the other hand, is a kind of daily brief that presents relevant information to the user, before they start their day. As for Copilot Vision, it is a feature built into the Edge browser that can answer questions you ask about the content of the web page you are visiting.

But unfortunately, none of these three new features are available in the European Union, for the moment.

  • Microsoft is full of AI-related announcements
  • This one offers new features for Windows, like Click to Do
  • Paint gets 2 new AI-based features
  • And Copilot gets even smarter
