Deschamps list: Mbappé absent, Olise and Nkunku to replace Griezmann

For this gathering, Didier Deschamps made some changes in his list due to the retirement of Griezmann and the injury of Mbappé ;eacute;.

After the shock of Antoine Griezmann's retirement announcement, the French team will have to do without its legendary number 7. While he was announced in the list, his departure opened the door to the return of Christopher Nkunku to the French team who numerically replaces the Atletico Madrid striker even if we can also consider that the presence of Michael Olise, Bayern striker, is also a real alternative to the French player. Kylian Mbappé, initially announced as out for 3 weeks, but present in the Champions League with Real this Wednesday, is ultimately not present for this list after an agreement with the medical staff. In midfield, despite his signing for OM, Adrien Rabiot is still a little weak and is not in the game, just like N'Golo Kanté.

This gathering with two matches on the program, Israel on October 10 in a boiling context and Belgium on October 14, is already decisive after the defeat against Italy on the first day.

Here is Didier Deschamps' list for the October training camp without Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappé.

  • Goalkeepers: Mike Maignan, Brice Samba and Alphonse Areola
  • Defenders: William Saliba, Ibrahima Konatá, Dayot Upamecano, Jules Koundá, Théo Hernandez, Lucas Digne, Wesley Fofana, Jonathan Clauss.
  • Midfielders: Youssouf Fofana, Aurelien Tchouaméni, Warren Zare-Emery, Manu Koné, Eduardo Camavinga, Matteo Guendouzi.
  • Forwards: Randal Kolo Muani, Marcus Thuram, Michael Olise, Ousmane Dembélé, Bradley Barcola, Christopher Nkunku.

15:10 – Rendez-vous for October 10

Didier Deschamps' press conference, now on the pitch with the match against Israel on October 10 and Belgium on the 14th.

15:00 – Pavard absent, Kalulu soon to join the Blues ?

“Benjamin is not moving away. I know what he is capable of doing. “Of course I am Kalulu, already when he was at AC Milan. I also look at what he does with Juventus, he is capable of occupying both positions. With the technical staff, we observe him. He had a complicated last season. So much the better that he is in very good conditions at Juventus,” explained Didier Deschamps.

14:50 – Rabiot needs some time says Deschamps

“Adrien, I've spoken to him several times. He played 30 minutes in the last game. But he still needs time. His last game where he started was on July 9 with us. It's wiser to wait. He needs to get some playing time. If all goes well, he'll be available in November.”

14:40 – Deschamps happy with Nkunku's return

“Unfortunately, he had a lot of injuries. He has a playing time that is not excessive at Chelsea. “Every time he has played, he has plenty of energy. In his progression, injuries have been a major obstacle. We have to get rid of that and chain together playing time to get back to his best level."

14:35 – Lucas Chevalier "is getting closer"

"He's getting closer and closer. The three who are here are used to it. And they haven't lowered their level. I didn't need yesterday's game to know that Lucas has great potential. &Cit will come at some point. &Cit puts an obligation on the three goalkeepers to stay efficient." explained Didier Deschamps about the Lille goalkeeper.

14:30 – Deschamps returns to Griezmann's non-captaincy

“Even though I made choices, Antoine since 2014, the only big match where he didn't start was against Spain. But there's no downgrading of him. In September, he was expected to start one of the two matches. If Antoine was able to be missed occasionally, it lasted one day. Knowing him, he doesn't need to miss that. He needs this tranquility, freedom, spontaneity on the field. He has been a very good leader, even without being captain. It is not a trigger. It started in 2014 with everything he has done.”

14:24 – “Not in the best conditions”, Deschamps returns to Mbappé's attitude

“There are no worries about his commitment. I spoke with him a lot. In any case, there will always be different interpretations. At the last gathering, he was not in the best psychological condition. With the wait in Madrid, in particular” explained the coach at a press conference this Thursday.

14:20 – No announcement on the captaincy

Didier Deschamps prefers to warn the players concerned by the future captaincy and the vice-captain before making the announcement to the press.

14:16 – Physical problem for Kanté

“N’Golo is not here because he had a physical problem with the adductor. He needs treatment,” explained Didier Deschamps at a press conference.

14:12 – Deschamps' tribute to his “favorite”

“What can I say about Grizou my darling ? This is not a decision made on a whim. He is reaching an age (33 years old), it is a natural and logical question. Every season played, with the clubs and the French team, there is physical and psychological fatigue. He was thinking about it during the last competition. When we talk about physical fatigue, there is the succession of calendars, but also psychological fatigue with many constraints. At the end of a career, we don't have the same priorities”

14:10 – Explanations for Kylian Mbappé's absenceé

"I spoke with Kylian and given his situation which is still uncertain after coming on Wednesday, he has a match on Saturday and there are questions. He has a problem, not serious, but he needs treatment to recover properly. I'm not here to take risks. That's why Kylian isn't here.”

14:08 – No Kanté in the middle

N'Golo Kanté has not been called up for this gathering, Guendouzi and Koné are taking advantage of this absence to be on this list.

This is the main information on this list, Kylian Mbappé, captain of the French team, will not be at the gathering of the Blues against Israel and Belgium on October 10 and 14.

  • Goalkeepers: Mike Maignan, Brice Samba and Alphonse Areola
  • Defenders: William Saliba, Ibrahima Konate, Dayot Upamecano, Jules Kound, Theo Hernandez, Lucas Digne, Wesley Fofana, Jonathan Clauss.
  • Midfielders: Youssouf Fofana, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Warren Zaïre-Emery, Manu Koné, Eduardo Camavinga, Matteo Guendouzi.
  • Attackers: Randal Kolo Muani, Marcus Thuram,& ;nbsp;Michael Olise, Ousmane Dembélé, Bradley Barcola, Christopher Nkunku.

14:04 – A bit of delay

It's usual, Didier Deschamps is a little late in announcing his list to the journalists present at the FFF.

13:53 – Which captain ?

With the retirement of Griezmann, vice-captain and the probable absence of Kylian Mbappé for this gathering, Didier Deschamps will have to name a brand new captain and vice-captain. If N'Golo Kanté is present, the Frenchman could obtain this role. Aurélien Tchouaméni could also have a big role in the coming weeks with his status.
