The Frenchman Kylian Mbappé still reserves his word to the Swedish justice in case of a summons from the latter.
Kylian Mbappé, is, according to the Swedish press, accused of rape after a young woman's complaint on Saturday, October 12, according to facts that allegedly took place on October 10 in Stockholm. After launching a “FAKE NEWS” on social networks, the Frenchman would indeed be the person targeted by the complaint, his entourage would be certain of it as indicated by RMC Sport. According to information from the Swedish newspaper Expressen, the French player is considered “reasonably suspicious” in this case. This is the lowest level of suspicion in Swedish criminal law, but according to which concrete circumstances suggest that a person has committed the acts he is accused of.
According to Le Parisien, the player would not understand the accusations even if he admitted to a sexual relationship with a young woman. He could rely on written messages testifying to a “happy meeting and a consensual relationship” after the young woman left the hotel. But there is nothing to say for the moment that this young woman is indeed the complainant who presented herself to the police a few hours later.

While the plaintiff's lawyer refuses to comment, Kylian Mbappé's lawyer has spoken out several times in the French media, notably mentioning the possibility of a “trap”, as he has been tracked since his arrival in Sweden. But on Thursday, October 17, the player's lawyer told AFP that Kylian Mbappé “keeps the primacy of his explanations” for the Swedish justice system, should it request it, and also “firmly denouncing the media allegations suggesting that Kylian Mbappé has spoken out about the course of his trip to Stockholm”.
But what does the Frenchman risk ? “When the suspicions are strong enough, we can start to consider questioning the suspect,” explained the prosecutor in charge of the case. “In some cases, the suspect's testimony is credible and the investigation can then be abandoned immediately,” the prosecutor also explained. Furthermore, when the suspect is in another EU country and refuses or is unable to travel there, he or she may be questioned by the local police. If the case is confirmed and goes to trial, in Sweden, rape is punishable by a prison sentence of between three and six years. But for the time being Kylian Mbappé would still be considered “reasonably suspicious” and this qualification rarely results in pre-trial detention.
