He was notably Minister of Public Security in Pauline Marois’ government from 2012 to 2014.

Defeated by the CAQ candidate in the 2018 election, he returned to Ottawa for the Bloc Québécois in the 2019 federal election and was re-elected to the House of Commons in 2021. Since then, he has been the Bloc Québécois’ critic for foreign affairs and cooperation. international.

Bloc leader Yves-François Blanchet highlighted Mr. Bergeron’s “exceptional commitment” on Thursday “for all the years he has devoted himself wholeheartedly and with remarkable efficiency to public service, both in terms of the priorities of the citizens of his riding and those of Quebec.”

Mr. Bergeron said that, like his fellow citizens, he had to “deal daily with the ups and downs of life, with its moments of joy, of course, but also its moments of sorrow.”

“This is how life has led me to have to devote more time to my family members,” he said.
