We have some bad news for those waiting for the affordable version of the Vision Pro.

This year, Apple finally entered the AR/VR product market by marketing the Vision Pro headset. But as the year draws to a close, the results are mixed for the moment. There was certainly some enthusiasm when the headset was released. But in the long term, sales volumes do not seem to be particularly significant.

According to previous rumors, to remedy this, Apple would have considered launching a second headset that would be a more affordable version of the current product. Indeed, the Vision Pro costs at least 3,999 euros in France. The idea would have been to make concessions for the technical sheet, in order to offer an AR/VR headset at a more acceptable price for consumers. But unfortunately, according to new rumors, Apple's strategy has changed.

A new headset in 2025, but not the one you were expecting?

In a post on X, the usually well-informed analyst Ming Chi Kuo explains that the production of the affordable Vision Pro headset will be delayed and that it will not arrive before 2027. Apple will indeed offer a new mixed reality headset in 2025, but according to the analyst, this headset will be an improved version of the current product, with a more powerful M5 chip.

But why would Apple want to delay the release of its affordable headset?? According to Kuo's explanation, simply offering an affordable version would not be enough to create new uses for the product. “It's a similar situation to that of the HomePod – even after launching the cheaper HomePod mini, Apple's smart speakers have failed to gain traction,”, the analyst says.

In any case, Apple is already facing stiff competition in the AR/VR market. Recently, Meta Group unveiled an affordable version of its Quest 3 headset. And it also took advantage of its annual event to unveil a prototype of holographic glasses. For its part, Samsung is collaborating with Google and Qualcomm to offer a mixed reality product. And recently, we learned that this product will arrive in 2025.

  • This year, Apple finally got into mixed reality, but so far, it hasn’t been a success
  • Previously, rumors suggested that the company was preparing an affordable version of the Vision Pro
  • But a new publication from analyst Ming Chi Kuo indicates that production of this affordable version has been postponed
  • Next year, Apple will instead offer a more powerful version of the Vision Pro
