While it already offers many features based on generative AI on its smartphones, Samsung announced a few months ago the development of a more intelligent version of its assistant Bixby. And this November, this improved version of Bixby is finally showing its face. Unfortunately, for the moment, this new version of Samsung’s assistant, which is based on recent developments in artificial intelligence, is only available in China.

Models dedicated to China with a new assistant

Samsung recently announced two new foldable smartphones in the Middle Kingdom: the Samsung W25 and the Samsung W25 Flip. As our colleagues at Android Authority explain, these are Chinese versions of products that the manufacturer has previously launched. However, on the software side, they benefit from a new version of the Bixby assistant. In essence, while the old version of Bixby was a competitor to Google Assistant, the new version is positioned more as an alternative to next-gen AIs, such as Gemini or Apple Intelligence.

Bixby is moving up a gear

According to Android Authority, the description of this new Bixby indicates that the assistant is able to better understand commands, can handle complex commands and can integrate both texts and videos into its responses. The new Bixby would also be able to understand the content of the user's screen, to take it into account when generating a response or to perform actions. For example, when the user views a location on a map, they can ask Bixby to launch navigation to this location, without having to give more details.

For the moment, Samsung's strategy in terms of AI is unclear. As a result, it is not known whether the Korean giant will offer this improved version of Bixby in other countries, or if it intends to reserve it for the Chinese market, and rely on Google's technologies in the rest of the world. In any case, it is worth noting that Samsung has also developed a technology comparable to ChatGPT on which it can rely to develop this type of experience.

  • Samsung's latest high-end smartphones include many features based on generative artificial intelligence
  • But the manufacturer has also developed an improved version of its Bixby assistant
  • And this improved version has just landed on two new folding smartphones marketed in China
  • Samsung's new AI understands user commands more easily, can handle more complex instructions and is capable of analyzing the content of the screen
