Apple could launch its own SmartTV, but on one condition

Apple already offers Apple TV, which allows you to integrate existing TVs into its ecosystem. But according to the latest newsletter from Mark Gurman, a journalist at Bloomberg, the company could, later, launch an Apple-branded television. In any case, the idea would be gaining ground. But the launch or not of this Apple SmartTV would depend on the success of another product that would come out before: the famous connected screen.

While Amazon and Google offer smart displays for their home automation ecosystems, Apple does not yet have a similar product. But according to Gurman, next year, the company will launch its first smart display for the home. This display will have similarities to the iPad, will use a new operating system called homeOS, and will serve as a command center for the connected devices in the home.

The success of this new product is not guaranteed. But, according to the Bloomberg journalist, if Apple's smart display is a hit, it could then consider launching other smart products for the home, including another smart display with a robotic stand, as well as the Apple TV.

What will Apple's smart display offer ?

For the moment, the Cupertino firm would therefore be focused on this connected screen. And if caution is required for the moment, Mark Gurman's publication shares some interesting details about this future product. It would have a home screen comparable to that of iOS which would display widgets and controls for connected devices, on a 6-inch screen. The device would be compatible with connected products compatible with HomeKit (lights, security cameras, etc.), but would not have app stores. On the other hand, it would integrate some Apple applications, such as Safari, Notes or the calendar. Apple would also highlight the integration of FaceTime and the possibility of using this screen as an intercom in the house.

Otherwise, regarding the form factor, it would be a sort of entry-level iPad with a square screen and an internal battery. The connected screen would also be equipped with sensors that allow the interface to adapt to the distance between it and its user. It would be possible to hang this connected screen on a wall, or to place it on a base that includes additional speakers.

  • Apple is reportedly studying the possibility of launching a SmartTV
  • But this project would be conditioned by the success of another product: the Apple connected screen
  • According to journalist Mark Gurman, this connected screen would be planned for 2025 and would position itself as a competitor to Google's Nest Hub and Amazon's Echo Show
