Launched in April 2021, the AirTag is already over 3 years old. And currently, rumors are circulating about the new version of Apple's object tracker, which could arrive next week. In his latest newsletter, Mark Gurman, a journalist at Bloomberg, assures that the AirTag 2, whose code name would be B589, should be released in mid-2025. Apple is already testing the production of this new accessory.
Gurman also talks about the design of the AirTag 2, which should be similar to the first version. For example, there would be no new format or a credit card-shaped tag for wallets. On the other hand, the company would focus on improving the features. Specifically, the AirTag 2 would have a better range, a new chip, and improved privacy protection.
For example, Apple would make it harder to remove the speaker built into the AirTag. And this is an important development, since this speaker alerts people when they are being spied on with an AirTag. This new AirTag would be part of a series of new products planned for 2025, including the iPhone SE 2025, as well as a connected screen like the Amazon Echo Show or Google Nest Hub.
AirTag: an increasingly essential product
This rumor about the new version of the AirTag is circulating as Apple has just announced an important new feature for the AirTag and for other Bluetooth trackers compatible with its Locate network.
200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000As a reminder, when lost, AirTags and other compatible trackers emit a Bluetooth signal that is picked up by Apple products (for example, the iPhone of a person passing by). Then, the location of the place where the signal was picked up is securely transmitted to the owner of the lost item, via the Find My app.
And recently, Apple announced an update that will allow owners of AirTags or compatible trackers to share the location of their lost items with a third party, via a link. In addition, Apple is working with several airlines so that this location sharing can be integrated into customer services. As a result, in the event of lost baggage, airlines working with Apple will be able to rely on the Find My network to help their customers.
