No waves is a thriller released in France on March 27, 2024. This production by Teddy Lussi-Modeste, inspired by his own true story, tells the ordeal in which a middle school teacher is plunged, wrongly accused of harassing one of his students. French actor François Civil was chosen to play the lead role.
Synopsis – A young middle school teacher must deal with disturbing rumors when some students begin to suspect him, wrongly, of harassment.
Why No waves caused controversy before its release ?
If the film attempts to dissect the descent into hell of this character abandoned by the institution, which is inspired by an experience of the director (accused of sexual harassment by a student, he was cleared), it did not fail to to also cause controversy on social networks even before its arrival in theaters.
When the trailer for No Waves was posted online, several Internet users were offended by these first images. Many accused the film of denigrating the words of victims of harassment: “Tell me you live in a patriarchal society where women are considered liars and in which men are “always right”, without telling me you live in a society patriarchal: the next film with François Civil”, wrote one of them on X, when another believes that “by accepting this type of role, [François Civil] clearly shows which side he takes his place."
But obviously, the subject of the feature film is more nuanced than that. that ça. As the magazine Première explains in its review, "Lussi-Modeste signs an exciting film of nuance and complexity" : "More than the truthé on what really happened, No wavesemphasizes the notion of perception of things. For example, it shows how young Leslie really believed in this harassment because by wanting too much to be close to her students and cool, her teacher (François Civil, remarkable) created – unintentionally – competition between them and the feeling of abandoning some when he prefers others.”
On the set of C à you this Monday, March 26, the filmmaker explains that his approach is part of the description of a complex situation: “We understand very well that this young girl could have believed that this teacher wanted to seduce her. It was important for me not to treat her as a liar but as someone who has her truth.” It is up to the spectators to form their own opinion in theaters.

Rate this movie Nana – 04/10/2024 Report Excellent movie that reflects the malaise of teachers in our society, who are not always supported by their higher authorities and who nevertheless try to continue to transmit.
Magnificent performance by François Civil who amazes us with each of these roles. Nathalie – 04/08/2024 Report Excellent film that reflects the sad reality of our society! The performance is just incredible. Viviane – 06/04/2024 Report Excellent film how realistic wonderful interpretation of François Civil Fafa – 03/04/2024 Report Magnificent film which relates the reality of our society HORUS – 03/04/2024 Report really liked this film for several reasons: realism of the description of a middle school in ZEP, well-crafted scenario, and especially for the masterful interpretation (it is the case to say it) of the actor François Civil in the role of a French teacher anxious to transmit to his students the taste for literature (even Ronsard): he perfectly succeeds in embodying this teacher who listens to his students but without demagogy (any language error is carefully corrected). His desire to change the world of school by refusing for his students the house arrest contrasts with the attitude of most of his colleagues who have already given up to avoid making “waves” like the principal who is mainly thinking about his career. Yes, I really recommend this film. Do not let yourself be influenced by some negative press reviews who, under the guise of right-thinking intellectualism, have also given up on changing the world and seem incapable of grasping the
