In July 2023, we learned that Showtime was preparing a new ten-episode prequel series called Dexter: Original Sin. Now that the trailer has just been released and is now known, this is the perfect opportunity to take stock of what we already know about this fiction that will be broadcast from December 13, 2024 on Paramount+.
What will the story of the series be ?
This production will allow us to follow the beginnings of Dexter Morgan in the police of Miami and what led him to become a serial killer. The story takes place in 1991, 15 years before the episodes of the original saga. Having just graduated, the latter is then only an intern and he must prove himself.
From the official synopsis:
Dexter: Original Sin follows Dexter as he transitions from college student to vengeful serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can no longer be ignored, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry, he adopts a code designed to help him find and kill those who deserve to be eliminated from society without being detected by law enforcement. It's a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship with the Miami Metro Police Department.

Quoted by our colleagues at Parade, Clyde Phillips, executive producer of the series, did not hide his enthusiasm: “It's a privilege to consider taking these complex and iconic characters and the stories, themes and possibilities they inspire even further”.
Inspired Casting
To embody this rejuvenation of the characters, Showtime has set its sights on Patrick Gibson as the young Dexter. He is best known for his work on the series The OA and Shadow and Bone. Alongside him, a bunch of sure values, including Christian Slater (Mr Robot, True Romance) who slips into his father's shoes, or Molly Brown (Evil, Billions) who will be his sister on screen.
A universe that expands
We already had Dexter, then Dexter: New Blood, a production that takes place ten years after the original series. In this new prequel, it is therefore quite possible that we will meet protagonists already well known to fans of the saga but in a rejuvenated version.
