Apple's entry into the mixed reality market has been highly anticipated. And this year, the Cupertino firm finally launched the Vision Pro, its first product in this category. Unfortunately, this product is far from winning over the masses. On the one hand, there is the price, which is too high, even for Apple's customers. But on top of that, the Vision Pro is also too heavy and too bulky. And the uses for this headset are still too few for it to appeal to the general public.
But this situation does not seem to worry Apple, at least if we are to believe a recent interview with Tim Cook in Wired magazine. In this interview, the Apple CEO admits that the Vision Pro is not for everyone. He rather considers the Vision Pro as a product for “early adopters,” for people “who want to have tomorrow’s technology today.” “These people are buying it and the ecosystem is thriving. The ultimate test for us is the ecosystem. I don’t know if you use it a lot, but I’m in it all the time. “I see new applications all the time”, the Apple boss also explained.

In his interview, Tim Cook also talks about Apple Intelligence, the series of AI-based features that the company offers on compatible iPhones, iPads, and Macs. And the good news is that Apple's CEO assures that the company has never considered making Apple Intelligence pay (or making features pay). “For us, it's a bit like multitouch, which enabled the revolution of modern smartphones and tablets”, he indicated.
Apple thus stands out from other companies, such as Google or OpenAI, which require a subscription to users who want to use the most advanced versions of their technologies. Otherwise, Cook also talks about the Apple Intelligence feature which, according to him, is the most useful. Since Apple communicates a lot via email, it's about the AI's ability to summarize emails and sort them for the user.
- This year, Apple finally entered the mixed reality market
- However, the Vision Pro headset is not winning over the masses because it is too expensive, too heavy, and the uses are still limited
- But Tim Cook explains that Apple created the headset for those who want to take advantage of the new technology before everyone else
- Apple's goal would be, for the moment, to grow the ecosystem
