“He is on sick leave. At the end of his three-month break (early January), he has an appointment with the neurosurgeon to find out where we are. We'll see”, explains his manager, Joan Caudullo. An end to his career is a possibility.

“This year is pivotal for me. Either everything goes well, I play matches after matches and that's the best. Or it's a second option, and I stop playing rugby in case of another KO”, Willemse confided in these columns just before his shock.

A medical joker wanted

For two months, the Montpellier staff has been looking for a medical joker. Without success. “We need to have three number 5s in the squad. For now, we can't find any. The New Zealand championship has just finished, Super Rugby will start soon. We may not have the best player but we are trying to find a solution to support Chalu and Tyler, who have been working hard since the start of the season. Today, at the training center, we don't have a player capable of playing in that position”, assures Caudullo.

In eleven Top 14 games, Bastien Chalureau and Tyler Duguid have played ten and nine matches respectively since the start of the season.
