In 2025, Antoine de Maximy will celebrate the 20th anniversary of J'irai dormir chez vous. It's almost two decades since the most famous globetrotter of the PAF has been crisscrossing the planet according to his desires. From Japan to Australia, via Cambodia, Bolivia and Serbia, the friendly sixty-year-old has settled in almost everywhere.

When he's not trudging between the Rockies and the Andes, Antoine de Maximy is back home. It's in the heart of Île-de-Francethat the host who is used to makeshift lodgings resides. The journalists from the magazine Côté Maison recently had the privilege and exclusivity of going through the door of the man who usually invites himself to other people's homes.

Antoine de Maximy: where does he really live ?

Back from his trip, Antoine de Maximy puts down his suitcases in the outskirts of the capital, where he has made it his home for several years. “His home base is located in the suburbs of Paris, in a charming pavilion surrounded by a garden, which he has completely restored”, our colleagues reveal.

A master of recycling, the documentary filmmaker has furnished his comfortable home with “only recycled”, with a few exceptions, including a “old-fashioned light bulb that plays with light for 9 euros at Casto”. More surprisingly, there is neither a television nor curtains in his home. “The more we hide, the more likely we are to be bothered”, justifies the small screen star.

Antoine de Maximy: this unusual object in his kitchen

Our colleagues from Côté Maison went from surprise to surprise during the visit to Antoine de Maximy. So one should not be surprised to stumble upon a lawnmower in one's kitchen. “It's its place”, argues the man who cultivates with a certain fervor the art of “organized mess”. His secret ? Leave everything in bulk. My father used to say when it's put away, it's lost. It's true at my place.”

A nature lover, Antoine de Maximy only has very few green plants. “These are mainly problems”, he specifies. He prefers to spend time in his bathroom equipped with a bathtub (his favorite room) or to cook simple dishes in his large “completely open” kitchen where, he says, one can eat at 15 and have “candlelit parties” !”.
