IN BRIEF

  • Pascal Bataille announced on Instagram on December 6 that he has been suffering from lung cancer for a few months.
  • Despite a persistent cough since December 2023, the cancer diagnosis was confirmed after a scan several months later.
  • Pascal Bataille shares his experience to raise awareness and convey a message of optimism in the face of the disease.

Pascal Bataille will have to wage a war. A war against lung cancer from which he has been suffering for several months. On his Instagram account on Friday, December 6, the host revealed that he suffers from this serious illness. And he wants to be optimistic. I'm sure I'm going to win this fight. First, because I'm surrounded by wonderful doctors. Then because I benefit from new treatment protocols that have made considerable, exponential progress in recent years. And finally because I have a thunderous morale that allows me to believe in it hard as iron”, he confided.

Invited this Friday, December 6th on the set of It starts today, Laurent Fontaine's sidekick explained that he had waited months before this cancer was diagnosed. However, he suffered from a small health problem: a cough. “A cough that I've had since December 2023, he explained to Faustine Bollaert. Ihad a little Covid of nothing at all. I continued to cough.” The host was not immediately worried. Because the doctors were not, at first, alarmists.

This examination which “revealed the presence of a tumor”

“We thought it was a long Covid, then an allergy because I've had a little dog since I started coughing. Then we thought about other things. We did an X-ray that showed nothing…”, recalled Pascal Bataille. But several months after his cough started, the host was still embarrassed. His doctor then decided to have him “undergo a scan at the beginning of December”. It was this examination that “revealed the presence of a tumor”. And contrary to what he might have thought, he did not collapse at all.

“From the moment the radiologist told me there was something, (…) I told myself I was going to fight. It surprised me a lot, I thought I was going to have to go through a depressive, quite dark moment”, he confided on the set of France 2. Against the disease, Pascal Bataille therefore wants to fight. Enough to force the admiration of Faustine Bollaert, who wanted to know more about what could have triggered his lung cancer. “Do you smoke?”, she indeed asked him.

Pascal Bataille: “I'm in great spirit”

“I stopped smoking 23 years ago. Officially, according to medicine, my lungs had regenerated. But maybe not enough… I smoked a lot and I advise everyone not to do it. But in any case I had wisely stopped 23 years ago”, he revealed. If he decided publicly to talk about his cancer, it's because Pascal Bataille wanted “to get a certain number of messages across”.

“It's not a shameful disease. It's a disease that affects, unfortunately, many, many people. I want to talk about it because I think we need to convey a message of optimism, of positivity. I'm in great spirits, I'm doing very well. I've lost my hair but otherwise everything's fine”, he assured, smiling at the lips. Followed by a team of doctors, he will continue to follow a strict protocol to fight his cancer.
