As part of the end-of-year celebrations, a national campaign by the French Blood Establishment encourages donors to get involved. The French Blood Establishment Occitanie and the association Enfants Cancers Santé Occitanie signed an agreement on December 3 that unites the two organizations around a joint operation called “Solidarity December”.
1 donation = 1 euro donated
From December 16 to 29, the EFS is committed to donating 1 euro to the association Enfants Cancers Santé for each donor who comes to a blood drive in Occitanie. Thus, during this holiday period, each blood donation will count double! As a reminder, 36% of blood products delivered each year help cancer patients. This operation is therefore an opportunity for the EFS Occitanie to raise awareness among donors about the purpose of their gesture. “Because we want to actively participate in research efforts to combat pediatric cancers, we have chosen this meaningful partnership with Enfants Cancers Santé, coordinated with our essential mission of promoting blood donation. Thus, for each donor who comes to one of the 13 donation centers or 100 collection points in our region from December 16 to 29, we will donate 1 euro to the association”, explains Laurent Bardiaux, director of EFS Occitanie.

Professor Anne Laprie, a radiation oncologist specializing in pediatric oncology, testifies to the importance of the funds raised by the association: “Enfants Cancers Santé supported the work of my team, carried out in collaboration with all the radiation oncologists in France. This financial contribution made it possible to prepare a project that will use artificial intelligence to increase understanding of the mechanisms of relapse of this disease. It is therefore a great help that is provided to our research theme on brain tumors in children.”
In the Occitanie region, no fewer than 1,000 donations per day are thus necessary to meet the needs of patients.
